Find Your Fit

Give this summer the body you already have and get the skinny on Skims Signature Swim.

Ever been in a crowded room and noticed that one person? You know who. That man or woman who moves through the space exuding confidence, smelling good, and dressed to the nines. It is as if they have it all together (even if they don’t).

Body type categories for women.

Part of this swag, in my opinion, can come from what they’re wearing. Ill fitting clothes leads to fidgeting which projects low self-esteem. Good fitting clothes accentuates assets and shows up as confidence and being fully present.

Finding your fit is an easy and enjoyable process. Start by measuring your bust, waist, and hips with fabric tape. Input your results into a free body shape calculator online. Look up style guides and play with various combinations before you buy.

Based on my measurements I have an hourglass figure. This is when the chest and hips are equally wide and the waist is narrow. As a thick girl, my forever challenge is accentuating those curves while camouflaging my fuller stomach.

Despite my own insecurities, I am determined to “love me as me” at any given moment. Whether I gain weight, lose it, or maintain it, my goal is to refresh my wardrobe with pieces that feel good to me in the present.

So I decided to start where it feels the most vulnerable: swimwear. Based on various internet guides, someone with an hourglass figure should draw attention to the neck and shoulders, avoid tube tops, and opt for high-waist bikini bottoms.

Because I’m in a splurge era, I decided to try three swimsuits from Skim’s Signature Swim collection. They have signature styles in various colors. Usually, I would cover up everything and avoid bright colors, but I was trying to see something.

Zip Front Sleeveless One Piece in Neon Green

In 2023, I stepped outside of my comfort zone and secured a zip front sleeveless one piece swimsuit in neon green. The bikini area was a bit restricting, but I loved that I could adjust the front zipper to reveal more or less with each wear.

Plunge Bikini Top and High-Waisted Full Brief in Neon Orchid

To my surprise, the plunge bikini top passed the “bounce test” and kept everything in place! The matching high-waisted full brief in neon orchid provided too much coverage. It would be nice to have a more cheekier option instead.

Halter Monokini in Onyx

The halter monokini in onyx was by far my favorite style and color of the three! As a girl who embraces her cleavage, I found versatility in what I wanted to show. A little side boob now. A little under boob next. Plus the “-kini” was flattering!

Whether you pay more for a swimsuit or the actual experience in which you will wear it, finding your fit will help you to show up confidently. After all, it is better to make adjustments to your closet than to constantly adjust your clothes.
